About Betsy

Hi there! I’m a cartoonist, illustrator and independent art teacher living in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA.

I’ve been drawing all my life, but I got my start as a professional-type when King Features picked up a few of my single-panel cartoons for a feature called “The New Breed” about fifteen years ago. After I got done going around emptying out all the newspaper machines in my neighborhood when I got published, I was off and running. Since then I’ve been fortunate to publish cartoons and humorous illustrations all over the world.

Drawing and cartooning have been my “shadow career” as I’ve careened through many other ventures including film/video production, graphics/animation, software design, information architecture, games, surfing the Internet boom/bust in the SF Bay Area, and then entering the world of parenting. I’ve worked on lots of really neato things and met tons of super cool people. And the pencil and paper have never been far away.

Now I balance my time between teaching kids about drawing and cartooning (see more about that at the Drooly Dog Blog), pursuing my cartooning/illustration/graphic storytelling projects, and running around and with and behind my kids. And, the pencil and paper are never far away.
